Ingredients You’ll Need
Cooked shrimp – any sized shrimp works well for this recipe (I used small shrimp), as they are going to be chopped into small pieces before being added to this delicious shrimp salad recipe. Make sure you use cooked, peeled, and deveined shrimp. If you are using raw shrimp, make sure to cook thoroughly in boiling water first, until the shrimp turns pink and opaque.
Old Bay Seasoning, a classic pairing with seafood! It’s savory, a little spicy, and has a wonderful flavor – a seafood lovers favorite!
Mayonnaise is the creamy base of this dressing. I love using a simple mayo dressing for these shrimp salad sandwiches, as well as for lobster rolls, tuna salad, or any seafood salad.
Fresh lemon juice gives the dressing a wonderful light citrusy flavor.
Dijon mustard adds a great flavor and texture to the dressing. Use Dijon, stone-ground mustard, or a whole grain mustard.
Herbs and spices – the dressing also contains garlic powder, fresh parsley, black pepper, and a little paprika for a kick!
Additions and Substitutions
- Add 2 tablespoons of chopped red onion to the mix for a spicier flavor. You could also add sliced green onions to the salad or as a garnish.
- Instead of mayonnaise you can use sour cream or Miracle Whip.
- For a spicier version, add a little cayenne pepper, hot sauce, or red pepper flakes to the dressing.
- For a brighter flavor, add a teaspoon of lemon zest to the shrimp salad dressing.
- If you don’t have parsley, you can use fresh dill.
