Ingredients You’ll Need

The base of this recipe is peanut butter, which gives it a wonderful taste. I like starting with a plain (unsweetened and no-salt-added peanut butter) so I can add just the right amount of sweetness and salt on my own.
Fresh lime juice and rice vinegar also add that classic tangy taste to this sauce. I like using both fresh lime and vinegar together for the best flavor.
Fresh cloves of garlic give the sauce depth and a great taste. And you don’t even need to chop them first – add the whole cloves into the sauce and blend until well-combined.
A little olive oil gives this dressing an extra creamy texture.
Adding a bit of honey adds a wonderful sweetness to this sauce. See some other sweetener substitutions below for a plant-based version.
Soy sauce adds a salty flavor and great taste. You can use regular soy sauce (or shoyu sauce) as well as a low sodium or light version if desired.
If you want a sauce with a little kick of heat, add a pinch (about 1/4 teaspoon) of cayenne pepper or chili flakes to the sauce. You can add more, or less (for no heat) if you prefer.
Additions and Substitutions
You could always substitute a different oil if you don’t have olive oil on hand. Try another neutral oil like vegetable oil, canola oil, or sunflower seed oil.
You can substitute honey with maple syrup or agave nectar – both of those options are plant-based if you wanted a vegan version. A liquid sweetener works best as it adds moisture to the sauce. You could also use brown sugar, just include a tablespoon or two of water at the same time.
Instead of cayenne pepper, you could also add 1-2 teaspoons of sriracha for added spice and flavor.
How To Make Peanut Sauce in a Blender
Step 1: To a blender, add the peanut butter, rice vinegar, honey, soy sauce, garlic cloves, and cayenne pepper (if using).
Step 2: Drizzle in the olive oil.
Step 3: Squeeze in the fresh lime juice.
Step 4: Start blending on low, and work your way up to high speed, blend for 2-3 minutes until you get a creamy consistency. If you sauce is too thick or the blender seizes, add water, 1 tablespoon at at time until the sauce reaches your desired consistency. Serve and enjoy!
