Ingredients You’ll Need

3 ingredients for margaritas with tequila, limeade, and jalapeno peppers.

Limeade – I use a store-bought bottled limeade, but you can also use a frozen version that is concentrated and mix with water. Limeade is just lime juice, sugar, and water – so it’s also light on ingredients and has a more deep, citrusy taste than lemonade.

Fresh jalapeno peppers give this margarita it’s spice! I like to add 2 margaritas for 64 ounces of limeade, making it a great sweet/spicy balance. If you want a more mild drink, you can use 1 jalapeno, or if you want a spicier one, add 3 peppers – up to you!

Tequila – you can use your favorite kind of tequila. We like reposado which has a wonderful flavor. You can use blaco or anejo tequila, or even try this with mezcal for a smoky flavor.

Substitutions and Variations

You can try a different pepper if you prefer – serrano peppers or habanero are slightly spicier, and will give you a lot more heat!

You can make this with lemonade as well.

Want a lighter version, try a zero sugar limeade, or one made with artificial sweeteners for a lower sugar version.

Recipe FAQs

Can you use fresh lime juice instead of bottled limeade?

Yes you could, but one benefit to using bottled limeade is that it already has sweetness added. If you swap it for fresh lime juice, you’ll need to add a sweetener like simple syrup or agave nectar to balance the tartness of the lime.

How spicy is this margarita?

It depends on how long the jalapeno peppers sit in the drink! For a mild kick, remove the seeds and only infuse for a few minutes. For extra heat, leave the seeds in and let them soak longer (up to 24 hours).

Can you make this drink ahead of time?

Yes, this recipe is great to make ahead! Mix the limeade and tequila together and store in the fridge. Add the sliced jalapeƱos at least 1 hour before serving so the drink gets a nice, fresh heat without being too overpowering.
